Egg Safety at St. Rose

Half a billion eggs have now been recalled due to the Salmonella outbreak and as such, we continue to field questions regarding the ever-increasing recall of eggs. All eggs and egg products received by St. Rose’s Nutrition Services have been pasteurized and meet the most stringent guidelines to ensure that they are safe for our healthcare setting. The shell eggs St. Rose uses go through a 5-step system, and again, have been pasteurized to destroy all viable salmonella.

Do NOT eat eggs over easy … the FDA says to avoid runny egg yolks – and don’t eat uncooked cookie or cake batter!

Make sure to check with your local grocery story, or check on their websites for recall information to see if eggs you have purchased are affected.

If you love eggs, and just can’t live without them, make sure they are throughly cooked. Find great egg recipes at: http://www.marthastewart.com/photogallery/easy-egg-suppers
